The zero point of the scale of the Abbe refractometer dial sometimes moves and needs to be corrected. The calibration method is generally to use a standard liquid with a known refractive index, usually pure water. Use the instrument to measure the refractive index of pure water and read the value. If the standard refractive index of pure water under this condition does not match, adjust the value on the dial until it matches. It can also be corrected by the refraction glass equipped with the instrument when it leaves the factory. The specific method is generally introduced in detail in the instrument manual.

After using the Abbe refractometer, pay attention to maintenance. The instrument should be cleaned. If there is dust on the surface of the optical parts, it can be wiped lightly with high-grade buckskin or absorbent cotton, and then blown away with the ear washing ball. If there is oil stain, use absorbent cotton dipped in a little gasoline to wipe it lightly, and then wipe it clean with ether. After use, put the instrument into a box with a desiccant, and place it in a dry, well-ventilated room to prevent the instrument from getting damp. When moving the instrument, strong vibration and impact should be avoided to prevent damage to optical parts and affect accuracy.

maintenance:

(1) The instrument should be placed in a dry, well-ventilated room to prevent the optical parts from becoming moldy after being damp.

(2) When testing corrosive liquids, cleaning work should be done in time (including optical parts, metal parts and painted surfaces) to prevent erosion and damage. The instrument must be cleaned after use, and there should be a desiccant (color-changing silica gel) in the wooden box to absorb moisture.

(3) The working surface of the refracting prism system must be cleaned before and after using the instrument and when changing samples.

(4) There should be no hard impurities in the sample to be tested. When testing solid samples, the surface of the refracting prism should be prevented from being roughened or indented.

(5) Always keep the instrument clean. It is strictly forbidden to touch the optical parts with oily or sweaty hands. If there is dust on the surface of the optical parts, use high-grade buckskin or long-fiber absorbent cotton to wipe it lightly and blow it away with a leather blower. If the surface of the optical parts is stained with grease It should be wiped clean with alcohol ether mixture in time.

(6) The instrument should avoid strong vibration or impact to prevent damage to optical parts and affect accuracy.
